Its main goal is to improve education in India, and the acronym on NCERT full form stands for “National Council of Education Research and Training“. The organization is headquartered in New Delhi. Its director since 2015 is Dr. Hrushikesh Senapaty.

History of NCERT

The NCERT was formed by merging seven existing educational institutions. They were the Central Institute of Education in 1947, the Central Bureau of Textbook Research in 1954, the Directorate of Extension Programs in Secondary Education (DEPE) in 1958, and the National Institute of Basic Education. The NCERT was also formed in 1956 and consists of the National Fundamental and Audio-Visual Education Centre.

In addition to its traditional responsibilities, the organization has expanded its horizons to focus on vocational, early childhood, and competitive value education.
